Leslie Porter Park is a City of Lynn Haven waterfront park on North Bay, and beside it the old D.J. Bailey Bridge, built in 1946 and bypassed by a four-lane bridge in 1999, still stands as a half-mile walking and fishing bridge. From the deck anglers work the pilings for speckled trout, redfish, sheepshead, black drum and flounder, with Spanish mackerel, ladyfish and mangrove snapper in the warm months and white trout and croaker in winter. Fish live shrimp on a jig head or under a cork along the pilings, and fiddler crabs for sheepshead in late winter and spring. The park adds boat ramps, a sandy beach with a swimming area, outdoor showers, pavilions, grills, bathrooms and an ice machine. Tides are small, so moving water and wind matter most; bring a drop net, and leave the exposed deck at the first thunder.
