Fee to fish: National seashore entrance fee, cashless payment only (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Playalinda Beach is the southern district of Canaveral National Seashore, a long undeveloped Atlantic beach north of Kennedy Space Center. Surf anglers come for pompano and whiting from fall through spring, bluefish runs, big redfish and black drum, and summer sharks. Walk a boardwalk from a numbered parking area and fish the troughs on a rising tide with sand fleas, clams or shrimp brought from home, since digging for bait is not allowed. The National Park Service charges a cashless entrance fee and opens at 6 a.m., closing at 8 p.m. in summer and 6 p.m. in winter. The road and lots north of Parking Lot 8 close for weeks at a time after overwash, as they are now, and launches can close the district, so check the seashore's alerts first. Rip currents, lightning and no shade are the hazards.
