Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park Fishing

6.6· Beach · Atlantic Beach, FL

Fee to fish: Per-vehicle entry fee; lower rate for walkers and cyclists (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park is a large City of Jacksonville park with a mile and a half of wild Atlantic beach between Atlantic Beach and Naval Station Mayport. Anglers surf fish its beach for whiting, pompano, redfish, black drum and bluefish, with Spanish mackerel and sharks in summer, and the north end near the surf break called the Poles sits beside the St. Johns River's south jetty, where the river current pulls bait along the beach. The jetty itself is on naval station property, so fish from the park beach. Moving tides of around five feet fish best. The park charges a small entry fee and opens 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in daylight saving time and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter, with entry from 6 a.m. on tickets bought ahead. Rip currents, surfers and summer lightning are the hazards.
