Trout River Pier is a City of Jacksonville fishing pier on the south bank of the Trout River in north Jacksonville, running out beside the Main Street (US 17) bridge, across the water from the Jacksonville Zoo. The Trout River is a brackish tidal tributary of the St. Johns, and Visit Jacksonville bills the pier as a spot for tasty trout; redfish, croaker and black drum come to bottom baits, and sheepshead feed around the pilings in winter. Fish live shrimp under a cork for seatrout, or shrimp and cut bait on a bottom rig. The city lists the pier as open around the clock with restrooms, a boat dock and wheelchair access, and Visit Jacksonville says it is lit in the evening. Mind the busy bridge alongside and the tidal current.
