Blue Cypress Park Fishing

Blue Cypress Park is a City of Jacksonville park in Arlington with a golf course and community center, and on its river edge a T-shaped fishing pier and a boardwalk along the St. Johns River, both finished in 2001. The river here is brackish tidal water, and the pier is an easygoing place for croaker, redfish and black drum, with sheepshead on the supports in winter and trout and flounder in the cooler months. Shrimp or cut bait on a bottom rig with a sinker heavy enough for the tide does most of the work. The city lists the park as open in daylight hours, with restrooms, drinking water, picnic shelters and a playground. The boardwalk carries on to the neighboring Arlington Lions Club Park. Strong currents and summer lightning are the main hazards.
