Gifford Dock, also called the 45th Street Dock, is a small Indian River County park at the lagoon end of Gifford Dock Road, north of downtown Vero Beach, with a fishing pier and room to launch a kayak or canoe onto the Indian River Lagoon. The county names snook, redfish, spotted seatrout, sheepshead and mangrove snapper as the fish anglers cast for here. Fish live shrimp under a cork along the grass and mangrove edges, drop shrimp or crab beside the pier for sheepshead and drum in winter, and try dawn for snook in summer and during the fall mullet run. The tide is small here, so wind often moves the water. The county lists the dock as open 24 hours with parking and no other facilities. Manatees, summer lightning and the lack of any listed shelter or restrooms are the things to plan for.
