Tracking Station Park is an Indian River County beach park off A1A just north of Vero Beach, with three boardwalks over the dunes, a 624-foot lifeguarded stretch and fishing allowed outside it. The spread-out boardwalks are the useful part: take the one farthest from the swimmers and look for a quiet trough holding whiting and pompano through the cooler months, Spanish mackerel and bluefish on their spring and fall passes, and small snook, croaker and ladyfish in summer. The fall mullet run brings jacks, redfish and the odd tarpon in close. Clam or shrimp on a single-hook bottom rig, sand fleas for pompano and a fast plug for mackerel cover the year. Tides turn twice a day. The park lends a beach wheelchair and has an accessible crossover, restrooms and showers, and it is open 7 a.m. to sunset.
