Eagle Point Park is a quiet Pasco County nature park off Strauber Memorial Highway in New Port Richey, where 17 developed acres sit inside about 661 acres of protected coastal marsh and mangrove. Shore anglers fish from three small piers on the park's tidal canals and on Trouble Creek, and a kayak launch leads out through the mangroves toward the Gulf. Redfish, snook and spotted seatrout work the edges, sheepshead and black drum hang around the pilings in the cooler months, and mangrove snapper, jacks and ladyfish fill in through summer. Live shrimp under a cork or on a light jighead is the standby. Fish a moving tide, because Trouble Creek runs very shallow at low water. There are restrooms, picnic pavilions and a playground. Watch for summer lightning, slippery pier boards and biting insects.
