Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park Fishing
6.6· Backwater · Port Richey, FL
Fee to fish: State park entrance fee per vehicle or reduced walk-in rate (checked Sep 27, 2026)
Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park protects about four miles of Pasco County coast near Port Richey: mangrove islands, salt marsh, tidal bayous and salt springs. It is a paddle-and-fish park; the park describes its fishing as done from a canoe or kayak in the mangrove creeks and open water, and shore access is limited to the launch area at the end of the main entrance boardwalk. Spotted seatrout, redfish, snook, sheepshead and mangrove snapper feed along the mangrove edges, with flounder and juvenile tarpon in the backwaters. Live shrimp on a jighead or a weedless soft plastic works well. Fish the moving tide, because the bayous drain shallow at low water. The park is open 8 a.m. to sunset, charges $4 per vehicle and has restrooms, a launch and kayak rentals. Watch for oysters, heat and summer lightning.
