Spessard Holland North Beach Park is a 4.53-acre Brevard County beach park on A1A in Melbourne Beach, about three miles south of US 192, and the county itself calls it a popular fishing site, so expect company on a good winter pompano morning. Whiting, bluefish and black drum fill in through the cooler months. Spanish mackerel pass in spring and fall, snook show at dawn in summer, and the fall mullet run brings jacks, redfish and tarpon close to the beach. Long casts with sand fleas on a pompano rig are the standard approach, with shrimp for whiting and spoons for mackerel. There are two tides a day. Three dune crossovers, one of them ADA accessible, two reservable pavilions, picnic tables, restrooms and outdoor showers make long sessions comfortable, and the park opens dawn to dusk. Lifeguards work part of the summer, so fish away from swimmers then.
