Pompano Beach Fishing Pier, officially the Fisher Family Pier, is the city's rebuilt ocean pier at the heart of the Pompano Beach waterfront. It stretches nearly 900 feet past the surf into clear Atlantic water, deep enough at the end for kingfish, cobia and even the odd sailfish, though the everyday catches are Spanish mackerel, bluefish, blue runners and the pompano the town is named for. Winter is prime, when mackerel and bluefish runs meet pompano in the surf zone. A daily fishing fee applies and the city says no Florida fishing license is needed on the pier. It is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a bait shop that rents rods. Shark fishing and netting are banned; watch for lightning and crowds.
