Alimacani Park and Boat Ramp is a City of Jacksonville park on Xalvis Island, just west of the Heckscher Drive (A1A) bridge, where a sandy shore, a kayak launch and a dock look out over the Fort George River a short way inside Fort George Inlet. The river here is salty tidal water over sand flats and channels, and it holds redfish, seatrout, flounder, black drum and sheepshead, with jacks, ladyfish and bluefish chasing bait in the warm months. Fish live shrimp under a cork along the channel edges, or cut bait and mud minnows on the bottom. The city posts hours of 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. in daylight saving time and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in standard time, and lists restrooms, picnic shelters and security lighting. Watch the strong tidal current and the jet skis and small boats using the ramp.
