Riverview Park, Sebastian Fishing

6.8· Pier · Sebastian, FL

Riverview Park is the City of Sebastian's main waterfront park, on the Indian River Lagoon at US 1 and Sebastian Boulevard, and its twin piers run out into the lagoon for fishing and river watching. Anglers fish the pier ends and the grass beyond them for spotted seatrout, redfish and snook, with sheepshead and black drum around the pilings in winter, mangrove snapper in summer, and jacks, ladyfish and the odd tarpon when the fall mullet run passes. Live shrimp under a cork, a jig worked along the bottom or a live mullet at dawn cover most of it. The lagoon's tide is small here, so wind and moving water drive the bite. The park has restrooms, pavilions and a playground, and it hosts big festivals, so fish early on event days. Lightning and heat are the main hazards.
