Fort Zachary Taylor Fishing

6.8· Jetty · Key West, FL

Fee to fish: State park entrance fee per vehicle, plus county surcharge (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park sits at the southwest tip of Key West, and its rock jetty runs along the edge of the main Key West shipping channel. Florida State Parks invites anglers to fish off that jetty, while the swimming beach belongs to swimmers and snorkelers. Deep, clear water swept by strong currents holds mangrove, yellowtail and mutton snapper, small grouper, jacks, barracuda and tarpon, and it is a comfortable half-day with a café and beach close by. Fish the moving tide with bottom rigs and live bait, or work jigs for jacks. The park opens at 8 a.m., closes at sundown and charges an entrance fee, so this is a daytime spot. Slippery rocks, boat and ship wakes, and strong channel current are the hazards.
