Park Channel Bridge Fishing

5.7· Bridge · Monroe County, FL

Free: Free to fish this Heritage Trail bridge (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Park Channel Bridge is a short, quiet fishing span next to US 1 around mile marker 18.5 by Sugarloaf Key, one of the old railroad-era bridges the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail keeps for anglers, walkers and cyclists. It spans a narrow tidal channel linking the Atlantic flats and the backcountry, and its small size makes it a good classroom for bridge fishing, away from the crowds on the bigger Middle Keys spans. Mangrove snapper and grunts live on the pilings, barracuda and jacks cruise the current, and snook and tarpon come by in the warm months. Florida State Parks puts the trail's hours at 8 a.m. to sunset, so work the moving tide in daylight, ideally late in the afternoon. You park on a gravel shoulder beside the road, and the bridge has no facilities. Mind the traffic, share the span with bikes, and leave at the first thunder.
