Garden Key, Dry Tortugas National Park Fishing
6.1· Harbor · Monroe County, FL
Fee to fish: Park entrance fee per person, usually included in ferry or seaplane fare (checked Sep 27, 2026)
Garden Key, home of Fort Jefferson in Dry Tortugas National Park, lies about 70 miles west of Key West and can only be reached by ferry, seaplane or boat. The park allows shore fishing from a short list of places on the island's harbor side: the dinghy beach and seaplane beach east of the main dock, the main dock itself once the ferry has gone, and the harbor side of the sand spit toward Bush Key. The clear water holds yellowtail and gray snapper, grunts, jacks and barracuda, and snorkelers see tarpon, big groupers and sharks around the old coaling-dock pilings. Only circle hooks are allowed. Tides are small, about a foot. Day-trippers get roughly four and a half hours ashore, while campers can fish the evenings and mornings. No bait, tackle or food is sold on the island and there is no cell service, so bring everything.
