Bow Channel Bridge Fishing

6.5· Bridge · Monroe County, FL

Free: Free to fish this Heritage Trail bridge (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Bow Channel Bridge is one of the old Flagler-era spans next to US 1 at mile marker 20 in the Lower Keys, now a walking, cycling and fishing bridge on the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail. Its concrete deck puts you right above a tidal channel that drains the backcountry, so every tide sweeps shrimp and baitfish past the pilings. Mangrove snapper, grunts and jacks feed around the footings all year, barracuda patrol in winter, and tarpon pass through from spring into summer. The trail's listed hours, from Florida State Parks, are 8 a.m. to sunset, and the first half of the outgoing tide in the late afternoon is the time to be there. You park on the gravel shoulder of the road, and there are no facilities. Watch the highway traffic as you park and unload, share the deck with cyclists, and look out for summer lightning.
