Anclote River Park is a 31-acre Pasco County park in Holiday that runs along the north bank of the Anclote River where it meets the Gulf. Besides one of the few sandy beaches on this stretch of mainland and the largest county-run boat ramp in Pasco, it offers shoreline fishing access at the river mouth, where every tide carries bait past the bank. Snook, redfish and spotted seatrout feed along the edges, sheepshead and black drum move in during the cooler months, and mangrove snapper, jacks, ladyfish and the odd passing tarpon show up in summer. Live shrimp or pilchards on a light jighead or under a cork cover most of it. Fish the moving tide, and the falling tide above all. The park has restrooms, shelters and a playground and is open from sunrise to sunset. Watch for heavy boat traffic, swimmers at the beach and summer lightning.
