Pepper Park Beachside Fishing

6.7· Beach · St. Lucie Village, FL

Pepper Park Beachside is a 52-acre St. Lucie County park on North Hutchinson Island, north of Fort Pierce Inlet, with a guarded Atlantic beach and shallow reefs less than 100 yards offshore. The reefs make it a favorite with snorkelers and divers, and they hold fish too: snook, sheepshead and mangrove snapper around the hard bottom, pompano, whiting and bluefish in the troughs from late fall into spring, and jacks and Spanish mackerel chasing bait. Fish a rising tide and expect to lose some tackle to the rock. The park has restrooms, pavilions, grills and lifeguards, and the county lists fishing among its activities. Fish away from swimmers and dive flags, watch for rip currents and summer lightning, and shuffle your feet in the shallows.
