Econfina River State Park Fishing

6.1· Backwater · Taylor County, FL

Fee to fish: Honor-box entrance fee per vehicle; includes boat launch (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Econfina River State Park protects more than 4,500 acres of pine flatwoods and salt marsh on the Big Bend coast of western Taylor County, and its small boat ramp sits on the tidal, tea-dark Econfina River about 2 miles above the Gulf. The park manager calls the ramp a hotspot for anglers, with red drum, spotted seatrout and flounder within a simple cast, and the park says both fresh and saltwater fish are caught in the river. Fishing is allowed only in the park's designated areas, so follow the posted signs, then work shrimp under a cork, a jig or a spoon. NOAA's Econfina River station shows two uneven highs and lows on most days, ranging about 2 to 4 feet, and moving water is best. The park opens at 8 a.m., closes at sunset and charges a small honor-box fee. It is remote, so bring everything you need.
