Camp Helen State Park Fishing

6.4· Beach · Bay County, FL

Fee to fish: Small state park fee per vehicle at an honor box, less on foot or by bike (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Camp Helen State Park is a 180-acre day-use park at the far west end of Panama City Beach, bordered by the Gulf and by Lake Powell, the largest coastal dune lake in Florida, which breaks through to the Gulf at Phillips Inlet from time to time. That mix gives anglers two kinds of fishing in one visit: pompano, Gulf whiting, redfish and Spanish mackerel in the Gulf surf, and speckled trout, redfish and flounder around the brackish lake and its outfall when it is open. Fish the outfall on a falling tide, and the surf with shrimp or sand fleas bought before you arrive. The park is open 8 a.m. to sunset, and the beach is a walk from the parking area on trails and boardwalk. There is no lifeguard; watch for strong current in the outfall, rip currents, stingrays and lightning.
