Deer Lake State Park Fishing

6.2· Beach · Walton County, FL

Fee to fish: Honor-box entrance fee per vehicle or per person on foot/bike (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Deer Lake State Park protects a half-mile of sugar-white Gulf beach on County Road 30A in South Walton, reached by a boardwalk over an ancient dune system, and the park itself calls it the perfect environment for surf fishing. Pompano and Gulf whiting work the first trough in spring and fall, redfish feed along the bar, and Spanish mackerel, bluefish and ladyfish chase bait along the beach in the warm months. Fish a double-drop rig with sand fleas or shrimp on a moving tide in clean green water, and throw spoons when bait shows. The park is open 8 a.m. to sunset with an honor-box fee, a paved lot and restrooms by the parking area, and it can close for hours when it fills. There are no lifeguards, so read the flags, watch for rip currents and shuffle for stingrays.
