Intracoastal Waterway Park is a landscaped Brevard County park on the SR 520 causeway at the east end of the Hubert Humphrey Bridge, the gateway from Cocoa to Merritt Island. Its concrete fishing pier with benches reaches out along the bridge over the Indian River Lagoon, and boardwalks follow the shore. The bridge pilings and the deeper water of the Intracoastal channel draw spotted seatrout, redfish, black drum and sheepshead, with snook, jacks, ladyfish and mangrove snapper in the warm months. Live shrimp, soft plastics and cut mullet all work. The lagoon here has almost no tide; wind-driven current past the bridge is what matters. The park has restrooms and small picnic shelters and is open from dawn to dusk. Watch for lightning and keep clear of boats in the channel.
