Fee to fish: State park vehicle entrance fee covers parking (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a green oasis between the Intracoastal Waterway and the beach in the middle of Fort Lauderdale. The park allows fishing from its Intracoastal seawall on the west side and in public access areas, but not in the mangroves, the coastal dune lake or any other interior water, and posted no fishing signs rule. The seawall drops into deep, tidal water with steady boat traffic, and anglers catch snook, crevalle jack, mangrove snapper, barracuda and tarpon, with sheepshead in winter and plenty of catfish and ladyfish. Fish the tide changes with live shrimp or pilchards along the wall, early and late in the day. The park charges a vehicle entrance fee, opens at 8 a.m. and closes at sunset, and has a café, rentals and shop at The Grove. Watch boat wakes and summer lightning.
