8th Avenue South Beach Access, Naples Fishing

8th Avenue South Beach Access gives visiting anglers metered parking and a quick walk onto the Naples beach while the city's pier is closed for rebuilding.

• A city visitor access with meters and a freshwater shower at the beach end
• Snook in the surf in every season, best from late spring through summer
• Pompano, whiting, Spanish mackerel and jacks with the cooler months and the bait runs
• Restrooms about a third of a mile south at the Broad Avenue South beach end during the pier project
• Busy with swimmers on warm days, so early mornings and evenings fish best

The access is at the Gulf end of 8th Avenue South, just west of Gulf Shore Boulevard South, south of Lowdermilk Park and north of the Naples Pier.

• Parking: City of Naples visitor meters, $5 an hour with a $2.50 minimum; pay stations take quarters and major credit cards
• No parking at any metered beach space from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• No trailers, trucks, RVs or buses within one block of the beach
• Drivers with a disability permit may park at any space without paying, under state law
• A short path leads straight onto the sand; the city's beach access status page listed it open when checked in September 2026
• The pier, its stairs, restrooms and showers, and 12th Avenue South west of Gulf Shore Boulevard are closed for the roughly 18-month rebuild that began in January 2026

The Naples beach is long, open Gulf shore, and its fish come and go with the bait and the water temperature.

• Spring (Mar-May): pompano and whiting on the bars; Spanish mackerel and jacks on the bait; snook move back onto the beach as the water warms
• Summer (Jun-Aug): snook cruise the trough at dawn and dusk; ladyfish schools; tarpon pass offshore; blacktip sharks
• Fall (Sep-Nov): snook stay on the beach early in the season; the fall mackerel and pompano run; the odd redfish
• Winter (Dec-Feb): whiting and pompano between cold fronts; snook pull back to deeper, warmer water in cold snaps

Simple rigs and one spinning outfit cover most of the fishing here.

• Snook: a 7-foot medium spinning rod, 15 lb braid and a 30 lb fluorocarbon leader; work a white bucktail, a small swimbait or a live pilchard along the trough
• Pompano and whiting: a pompano rig with bright floats and a 2 oz sinker, baited with sand fleas or shrimp
• Spanish mackerel and jacks: silver spoons and small jigs when birds start diving
• Sharks: heavier tackle and cut bait, with the free FWC permit and never near swimmers
• A sand spike keeps the rod upright between casts on the soft sand

NOAA's Naples outer coast station, less than half a mile from this access, predicts two highs and two lows most days, of uneven size, with a range of up to about 3 feet.

• The top of the tide around dawn is a good time to walk the beach for snook
• An east wind lays the surf down and clears the water; a westerly roughs it up and clouds it
• Winter cold fronts push fish off the beach for a day or two; fish the calm, warming days that follow
• Summer mornings are usually calm and clear, before afternoon storms build
• Check for red tide reports along the Collier County coast before a trip

This is a busy city beach with an active construction site a short walk south.

• Stay well clear of the pier construction zone, its fencing, barges and work boats
• Swimmers fill this stretch on warm days; fish away from them and reel in when anyone wades near your line
• Shuffle your feet in the shallows to avoid stingrays
• Leave the beach when lightning threatens; summer storms arrive quickly
• The path is short but ends on soft sand; the city's parking list marks handicap ramps only at the pier access, closed for the rebuild, and at 4th Avenue South, a resident-permit access

The access itself is simple, but the pier project has moved some services close by.

• A freshwater shower at the 8th Avenue South beach end
• Restrooms at the Broad Avenue South and 13th Avenue South beach ends, kept open as pedestrian bypasses during the pier rebuild
• The western third of the pier parking lot at 12th Avenue South and Gulf Shore Boulevard South stays open to the public
• No bait is sold at the access, and the pier and its concession are closed, so bring bait with you
• Bring water and shade; there is none on the sand

• Arrive at first light, before the beach fills and while metered spaces are easy to find
• If 8th Avenue South is full, the other visitor meters are at 5th Avenue South, the 100 and 200 blocks of Broad Avenue South, and 13th and 14th Avenues South
• Walk north toward 7th Avenue South or south toward Broad Avenue South to find a stretch of trough without bathers
• On calm summer mornings, look for snook cruising in shin-deep water right at the edge
• Never cast toward the construction barges or work boats off the pier

The City of Naples manages the beach ends and their parking.

• No glass, animals or fires on the beach, and no open alcohol at beach access points
• City code bans walking on the pile beach erosion groins
• City code bans fishing from a park beach only where signs prohibit it; obey any posted signs
• A Florida saltwater fishing license is required unless you are exempt
• Shore-based shark fishing needs the free FWC permit
• Snook and tarpon have special rules: check FWC
