Doctors Pass Fishing

Doctors Pass is a small, busy inlet between the Moorings and Park Shore neighborhoods of north Naples, held open by a rock jetty on each side, and those rocks are where Naples shore anglers go for snook.

The pass cuts through the beach between the Moorings and Park Shore neighborhoods of north Naples, with condos on both sides, so you reach each jetty along its own stretch of beach.

• North jetty: park at the Via Miramar visitor (metered) beach access and walk about a quarter mile south along the sand
• South jetty: walk north along the beach from Lowdermilk Park, roughly three-quarters of a mile
• The beach walkways closest to the pass have no public parking; read the parking signs before you park
• The city charged $5 an hour at its beach meters when checked in September 2026
• You cannot cross the pass on the sand, so pick your side before you park
• Surface: soft sand, then uneven, slick rock

The pass concentrates bait on every tide, and the rocks give fish cover right at the mouth.

• Spring (Mar-May): snook move onto the jetties as the water warms; Spanish mackerel, jacks and ladyfish chase bait
• Summer (Jun-Aug): snook at their peak along the rocks and the adjoining beach, mangrove snapper in the rocks, tarpon passing offshore
• Fall (Sep-Nov): the mullet run brings snook, jacks, redfish and mackerel into the pass
• Winter (Dec-Feb): sheepshead and black drum on the rocks; pompano along the beach beside the jetties

Bring enough tackle to turn a fish away from the rocks: a 7 to 8 ft medium-heavy spinning rod with 20 to 30 lb braid.

• Snook: white bucktails, swimbaits or live pilchards and pinfish on a 2/0 to 4/0 circle hook with 40 lb fluorocarbon leader, swung along the rocks on the tide
• Jacks and Spanish mackerel: silver spoons and fast jigs when birds are working
• Sheepshead and snapper: fiddler crabs or shrimp on a short knocker rig tight to the rocks
• Pompano: a pompano rig with sand fleas on the beach beside the jetty
• A long-handled landing net is far safer than climbing down the rocks

Tides here are mixed, usually two uneven highs and lows a day, and the narrow pass funnels them into a strong current.

• The first and last hours of the outgoing tide are best for snook at the mouth
• Slack water gives you time to fish the rocks with bottom baits
• Dawn and dusk beat midday, especially in summer
• Calm, clear days let you see snook along the rocks; a light chop keeps them less wary
• Winter cold fronts bring north wind and cooler, clearer water; sheepshead bite best then

This is a rock jetty at a working boat channel, not a pier.

• The rocks are uneven and slippery, especially when wet or covered in growth; wear shoes with grip and never fish them in the dark alone
• Boats run the pass all day; never cast across the channel or at passing boats
• The current is strong in the pass; do not wade or swim there
• Shuffle your feet on the adjoining beach to avoid stingrays
• Summer lightning: leave at the first thunder
• Not suited to wheelchairs: the approach is soft sand and the fishing is from rock

Plan on finding no facilities at the pass itself.

• Lowdermilk Park, the city beach park to the south, has restrooms, showers and a beach grill
• Some city beach ends have outdoor showers
• No bait sales were confirmed near the pass; the city-run Naples City Dock on Naples Bay sells live shrimp and frozen bait
• No lights were confirmed; carry a headlamp if you stay for dusk
• Collier County has a maintenance dredge of the pass in the works (it opened bids in May 2026); while the work runs, expect pipelines or fenced-off sand near the pass

• The north jetty is the shorter walk from visitor parking; the south jetty suits a longer beach walk from Lowdermilk
• Fish the last two hours of the outgoing tide at first light for snook
• Cast parallel to the rocks and let the current swing your lure along them
• Share the rocks: give other anglers room and never cast across their lines
• Bring fiddler crabs or shrimp for the winter sheepshead
• Keep an eye out for dolphins working bait in the pass

Collier County manages the inlet and dredges it every few years, and the beaches on each side are public shoreline in the City of Naples.

• Obey any signs posted on the jetties or beach; City of Naples park rules ban fishing from a park beach only where signs prohibit it
• Glass, animals and fires are not allowed on the city's beaches
• A Florida saltwater fishing license is required unless you are exempt
• Snook and tarpon have their own rules: check FWC
