Fee to fish: State park per-vehicle fee at each parking area (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Big Talbot Island State Park is a wild sea island north of Jacksonville whose shoreline on Nassau Sound is lined with the bleached, fallen trees of Boneyard Beach and the dark outcrops of Blackrock Beach. Florida State Parks points anglers down the half-mile Blackrock Trail to fish the shoreline at the point for flounder and pompano, and says whiting, redfish and seatrout are caught all year. Strong currents sweep the sound, so bring heavy sinkers and spare rigs for the driftwood snags. Tides run about five feet, twice a day, and the moving water on either side of high tide is the time to fish. There is a small per-vehicle fee, the park opens 8 a.m. to sunset, and the trailhead has no restrooms. Bring or buy bait, as digging it in a state park is not allowed; there are no lifeguards and swimming is not advised.
