Fee to fish: State park per-person fee paid at an honor box (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Amelia Island State Park protects the undeveloped southern tip of Amelia Island, where the beach bends from the Atlantic into Nassau Sound, and Florida State Parks says fishing is popular from its shore. The sound, which the park calls one of the best fishing areas in northeast Florida and home to the state record flounder, pours strong tidal currents past the beach. Whiting, redfish, flounder and seatrout are the main catches, with pompano, bluefish and black drum along the surf and jacks and tarpon chasing the fall mullet run. Mullet, which the park says can be cast-netted along the shore, and shrimp are the go-to baits. Tides run about five feet, twice a day. The park charges a small per-person fee at an honor box and is open 8 a.m. to sunset. There are no lifeguards, and the southern point closes seasonally for nesting birds.
