Lafayette Park, Apalachicola Fishing

Lafayette Park is a historic City of Apalachicola park on the bay front, first dedicated in 1832, with a long fishing pier that runs several hundred feet out into Apalachicola Bay and ends at a pavilion. Hurricane Michael damaged the pier in 2018; it has since been restored with FEMA funding, and the city rededicated the park in March 2026. From the deck anglers catch sheepshead, black drum, redfish and speckled trout around the pilings, flounder, croaker and white trout on the bottom, and Spanish mackerel and ladyfish in the warm months. Fish a moving tide with shrimp or fiddler crabs, and soft plastics at dawn and dusk. The park has brick walkways, a gazebo, picnic tables, a playground and lit paths. Watch for summer lightning over the open bay and bring sun protection for the long deck.
