Golden Sands Beach Park is a 6.23-acre Indian River County beach park on A1A north of the Wabasso Causeway, near the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, and the county names fishing among its beach activities as long as you stay outside the lifeguarded stretch. With 128 parking spaces, six pavilions with grills and a shaded playground, it makes an easy family base: set a light rod for whiting and croaker in the near trough, a heavier one for pompano from late fall into spring, and keep a spoon ready for Spanish mackerel and bluefish when birds start working. Snook visit the surf in summer and the fall mullet run brings jacks and tarpon. Tides come twice a day, and the hours around high water fish best. Lifeguards cover 573 feet from 9:10 a.m. to 4:50 p.m.; the park opens 7 a.m. to sunset. Mind swimmers and rip currents.
