Wabasso Beach Park is a compact Indian River County beach park at the east end of Wabasso Beach Road, a short drive from the Wabasso Causeway (County Road 510), and the county allows fishing outside its lifeguarded area. The lot is small, with 34 spaces, so it rewards early starts: pompano and whiting are the steady fish from late fall into spring, Spanish mackerel and bluefish sweep past in spring and fall, snook work the trough on summer mornings, and jacks and tarpon trail the fall mullet schools. A small pompano jig tipped with shrimp, sand fleas on a float rig and a silver spoon for mackerel cover the season. Two tides a day move the water. The county streams a live beach camera for this park, handy for reading the surf before you drive. Restrooms, showers and an accessible crossover are on site; hours are 7 a.m. to sunset.
