Wabasso Causeway Fishing

6.7· Bridge · Orchid, FL

The Wabasso Causeway carries County Road 510 across the Indian River Lagoon between Wabasso and Orchid Island, and Indian River County's Wabasso Causeway Park lines it with shoreline, pavilions and a boat ramp. Anglers fish the park's shoreline and river beaches, the grass flats and the deeper water toward the high-rise bridge for spotted seatrout, redfish and snook, with black drum, sheepshead and mangrove snapper around the bridge structure and jacks and ladyfish blitzing bait. The lagoon has almost no tide here, so wind and water movement matter more than the tide table. The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset. Watch for traffic on the causeway, stingrays when wading, and summer lightning.
