Black Point Park Jetty Fishing

7.2· Jetty · Cutler Bay, FL

Black Point Park and Marina, a Miami-Dade County park near Cutler Bay, has a jetty that runs about a mile and a half out into southern Biscayne Bay beside the marina channel, and the county names it as the place to cast from shore, so anglers can reach water that is usually boat-only. The Black Creek Trail turns from pavement to dirt road to a sandy path along the top. Snook, mangrove snapper, crevalle jack and barracuda work the channel edge, tarpon roll in the warm months and the bay side has seatrout and the odd redfish or bonefish. Fish a moving tide, early or late in the day, with live shrimp or pilchards and small jigs. The park is open sunrise to sunset and has a bait and tackle store, restrooms and a restaurant. Bring water and shade: the jetty is long, exposed and hot.
