South Pointe Pier Fishing

7.0· Pier · Fisher Island, FL

Free: No pier fee; fishing free in marked areas only (checked Sep 27, 2026)

South Pointe Pier runs out from South Pointe Park at the southern tip of Miami Beach, alongside the Government Cut shipping channel and its rock jetty. It is one of the few places on the beach where you can drop a bait into deep, fast-moving water. Mangrove snapper, blue runners and jacks are the everyday catch, snook and tarpon roll through on evening tides, and winter brings Spanish mackerel and bluefish along the channel edge. Fish the last of the outgoing and the first of the incoming, when the current eases enough to hold bottom. Fishing is allowed only from the pier's marked fishing areas, the park keeps sunrise-to-sunset hours, and the city bans shore-based shark fishing, the pier included. Watch for wakes from cruise ships and freighters, crowds of sightseers behind you, and summer lightning.
