Bahia Honda State Park Fishing

7.0· Seawall · Big Pine Key, FL

Fee to fish: State park entrance fee per vehicle, lower for walkers/cyclists (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Bahia Honda State Park covers Bahia Honda Key at mile marker 37 in the Lower Keys, beside the deep Bahia Honda Channel and the rusting old railroad bridge. You cannot fish from the old bridge itself; the fishable spots are the old seawalls either side of its base in the Calusa area, where bottom rigs take mangrove, yellowtail and mutton snapper, and the shallow sand flats, where waders sight-cast for bonefish, permit and barracuda. Tarpon pack into the channel in spring and early summer. Fish the moving tide at the seawall and the rising tide on the flats. The park opens at 8 a.m. and closes at sundown, charges an entrance fee and has restrooms. Strong channel current, stingrays on the flats and summer lightning are the hazards.
