Spanish Harbor Channel Bridge Fishing

6.6· Bridge · Big Pine Key, FL

Free: Free fishing bridge; no charge to use it (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Spanish Harbor Channel Bridge, a surviving span of the old Flagler railroad, runs next to US-1 at mile marker 34 from Spanish Harbor Keys to Big Pine Key, and it is one of the few Lower Keys fishing bridges still open. The span belongs to the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail: Florida State Parks charges nothing to use it and lists it as open from 8 a.m. to sunset, and you share parking with the Spanish Harbor wayside boat ramp at its east end. Hard-running tides between the backcountry and the Atlantic put mangrove and lane snapper on bottom rigs and barracuda and jacks on lures, while tarpon roll through in spring and goliath grouper hold on the footings. Plan on late-afternoon moving water with live pinfish or shrimp. Expect no restrooms, and watch for crowds, heat, lightning and swift current.
