Old Seven Mile Bridge Fishing

7.3· Bridge · Monroe County, FL

Free: Free access; no fee to fish this bridge section (checked Sep 27, 2026)

The Old Seven Mile Bridge is the original Flagler railroad and highway span between Marathon and Little Duck Key, running beside the modern bridge. Fishing is allowed only at the west end, where a free section of the Overseas Heritage Trail runs out from Little Duck Key at mile marker 40 to where the old bridge stops; the restored Marathon end to Pigeon Key is for walkers and cyclists, with no fishing. The deep channels underneath carry fish between the Gulf side and the Atlantic, so mangrove, mutton and yellowtail snapper, grunts, barracuda, jacks and goliath grouper are regular, and tarpon pass in spring. Florida State Parks lists the trail as open 8 a.m. to sunset, so fish the strong middle of the tide in daylight. Park at the Little Duck Key boat ramp lot; heat, current and the height of the deck are the hazards.
