Sombrero Beach Fishing

Sombrero Beach is the City of Marathon's Atlantic-side beach park at the end of Sombrero Beach Road, a shady, fully accessible park with a sandy beach, pavilions, restrooms and showers. It is a quiet shore-fishing spot early and late in the day: cast from the ends of the beach and along the channel edges for snapper, jacks and barracuda, watch the nearby flats for bonefish and permit on a rising tide, and expect the odd tarpon or shark cruising past. The water is shallow and clear, so the early morning and late afternoon fish best. The city lists the park as open from 7:00 a.m. to dusk. Keep well away from swimmers and from roped-off sea turtle nests, which the city protects from April through October, and shuffle your feet for stingrays.
