Peanut Island Park Fishing

7.0· Inlet · Palm Beach Shores, FL

Peanut Island is a Palm Beach County park island just inside the Palm Beach (Lake Worth) Inlet. The county lists it as boat access only: come by private boat, kayak or paddleboard, or on one of two independently run water taxis from Riviera Beach and Palm Beach Shores. Its fishing pier, on the east side by the water taxi dock, sits over some of the cleanest, most current-swept water in the county, with mangrove snapper, snook, crevalle jack, barracuda, tarpon and sheepshead. Fish the incoming tide, when clear ocean water floods past the island, with live shrimp, pilchards and jigs. There is no food or bait on the island, so bring everything, including water. Fishing is allowed in designated areas only, never around swimmers or the snorkeling lagoon. Watch for boat wakes, strong currents and summer storms, and remember the last water taxi back leaves in the late afternoon.
