199th Avenue Beach Access, Indian Shores Fishing
4.8· Beach· Indian Shores, FL
The 199th Avenue West beach access is one of the Town of Indian Shores' public walkways to the Gulf, listed on the town map with its own parking area. It is a quiet stretch of Pinellas barrier-island sand rather than a destination fishing spot, so treat it as a place to try a surf rod while the family swims. Typical Gulf surf catches here would be whiting, pompano and the odd Spanish mackerel when bait is close, with sheepshead and snapper possible near any structure just offshore, and small sharks at night in warm months. The Gulf is shallow and clear, so light line and small baits work best. Dawn and dusk are the quietest times. The town bans shark fishing from its beaches, and the town does not list fishing at this access, so read the signs. Watch for rip currents, stingrays and summer lightning.
