193rd Avenue Beach Access, Indian Shores Fishing

193rd Avenue Beach Access, Indian Shores is a simple public path to the Gulf in a small beach town, useful because the town lets you park just across Gulf Boulevard at its Municipal Center. There is nothing fancy here, only sand, surf and the fish that travel the troughs.

The access is on the Gulf side of Gulf Boulevard at 193rd Avenue, near Indian Shores Town Hall at 19305 Gulf Boulevard.

• Getting there: follow Gulf Boulevard (SR 699) through Indian Shores; the town's FAQ notes that PSTA's trolley also runs along the road
• Parking: the town lists 193rd Avenue West as a walk-in access with parking across the street, and 193rd Avenue East at the Municipal Building as metered parking
• On September 2, 2026 the town warned that part of the Municipal Center lot may be limited while the court behind Town Hall is renovated
• The walk: cross Gulf Boulevard at a crosswalk, then a short path leads to the sand
• Other town lots with metered parking sit at 191st Avenue and near 197th Avenue

The surf here is a plain run of bars and troughs, so the fish follow water temperature and the bait schools.

• Spring (Mar-May): pompano and Gulf kingfish in the trough, then Spanish mackerel and ladyfish as the water warms
• Summer (Jun-Aug): snook cruising the wash at dawn, jacks on the bait, stingrays and hardhead catfish on bottom rigs
• Fall (Sep-Nov): pompano back on the bars, redfish traveling the beach, and more mackerel on calm mornings
• Winter (Dec-Feb): whiting and the odd black drum between cold fronts, when the water is clear

A light surf outfit, 7 to 8 feet with 10-15 lb braid and a 20-25 lb fluorocarbon leader, suits everything allowed here.

• Whiting and pompano: a dropper rig with two small circle hooks and a pyramid sinker just heavy enough to hold, with shrimp or sand fleas
• Moving pompano: a small jig worked slowly along the bottom of the trough
• Snook: walk the water's edge at first light and swim a white jig, a soft-plastic swimbait or a live baitfish along the wash
• Mackerel and ladyfish: a small spoon cast to working birds
• Keep wire leaders short: town code counts long metal leaders, fighting belts or harnesses and baits carried out by boat, kayak, drone or swimming as shark fishing, whatever you are after

Tides are mixed, usually two uneven highs and lows a day and sometimes one, with a modest range. NOAA's Indian Rocks Beach station, about 2 miles north, predicts roughly 1.5 to 3 feet between high and low.

• Moving water feeds the trough; plan around a tide change
• Early morning in summer, before swimmers and paddlers fill the shallows
• A gentle easterly leaves clear water for lures and sight casting
• A strong onshore wind makes a dirty shore break that suits bait more than lures
• After a front, give the surf a day to settle and clear

Most risks here are the road and the water rather than the beach itself.

• Gulf Boulevard is busy; cross at a marked crosswalk with your gear
• Swimmers share the surf, so cast well away from anyone in the water
• Stingrays bury in the shallows in warm months; shuffle your feet
• Rip currents can form in onshore blows; do not wade out after tackle
• Summer thunderstorms bring lightning quickly; leave the beach early
• Accessibility: level parking and a short sandy path with no mat; the town lists its mobility mat at the 196th Avenue access instead

The access is only a path; facilities are at the nearby town and county lots.

• Metered parking at the Municipal Building across Gulf Boulevard
• Restrooms at the town's Nature Park lot on 191st Avenue and at the Pinellas County lot at Tiki Gardens, both listed by the town with metered parking
• No bait or tackle at the access
• Bring water and shade; the beach has little of either
• Take your trash and old line home

• Leave the heavy tackle at home: shark fishing from shore is banned in town, and an accidental shark must be released at once
• Fish the trough in front of the path first, then walk north or south to find darker, deeper water
• The town bans unattended belongings on the beach from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., so do not leave rod spikes out overnight
• Fill in any sand-spike or bait hole before you go, as town code requires
• Pets are not allowed on the beach, and e-bikes and other motorized devices may not be ridden on the sand

The access and the town beach follow Town of Indian Shores code.

• Town code bans shore-based shark fishing in the town's waters even for holders of the state shore-based shark permit; an accidental shark must be released immediately with the least delay
• No pets on the beach, no fires, no unattended property on the beach from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., and none left in beach access areas at any time; fill any holes you dig
• A Florida saltwater fishing license is required unless you are exempt, and snook have their own FWC rules and permit
