Gandy Beach and Causeway Fishing

6.7· Flats · Pinellas County, FL

Free: No cost to fish; free roadside parking (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Gandy Beach and Causeway is the free shoreline along the Pinellas approach to the Gandy Bridge in north St. Petersburg, where US 92 crosses Old Tampa Bay. More than a mile of narrow sand beach lines the road, giving wade anglers easy access to grass flats, sand bars and the deeper water near the bridge. Spotted seatrout and redfish are the staples, snook work the bridge shadows and edges in the warm months, and sheepshead, black drum and flounder fill the cooler season. Wade the flats on the first of the incoming tide with live shrimp under a cork or a soft plastic, or fish the bridge edges at night. There are no park facilities; you park along Gandy Boulevard and walk to the sand. Watch for fast traffic, stingrays underfoot and lightning.
