Courtney Campbell Causeway Fishing

6.3· Bridge · Safety Harbor, FL

The Courtney Campbell Causeway (SR 60) crosses Old Tampa Bay between Tampa and Clearwater, and on the Tampa side its rocky shoreline beside the main bridge has long drawn shore anglers. The state closed the trail's pedestrian bridge to fishing in 2013 but said anglers could keep fishing beneath it and along the bridge approaches, and Hillsborough County lists fishing at its boat ramp on the north side. Expect spotted seatrout, snook and redfish, big summer ladyfish schools, sheepshead and black drum in winter and Spanish mackerel when bait moves up the bay. Fish a moving tide early or late in the day. Ben T. Davis Beach at the east end is a city beach where fishing is not designated, so fish here instead. Watch the fast traffic, slippery rocks and summer lightning.
