R.O.C. Park, Madeira Beach Fishing

6.0· Pier · Redington Beach, FL

R.O.C. Park, short for Remember Our Children, is the City of Madeira Beach's recreation complex on Boca Ciega Bay, near the island end of the Tom Stuart Causeway, and the city lists a small fishing pier off the recreation building patio. A wide seawall walk runs along the water, so this is an easy, family-friendly place to fish a bay tide between ballgames and the playground. Sheepshead and black drum come to the pilings and seawall in the cooler months, mangrove snapper, jacks and ladyfish in summer, and snook, trout and redfish pass along the wall through much of the year. Live shrimp is the bait to start with. NOAA's nearby Boca Ciega Bay station shows two uneven highs and lows on most days, and moving water fishes best. The pier is small, so arrive early, and plan on daylight, as no pier hours are posted.
