Frank Butler Beachfront Park East Fishing

6.1· Beach · St. Augustine Beach, FL

Free: No entry fee; driving onto the sand needs a seasonal pass (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Frank Butler Beachfront Park East is the ocean half of St. Johns County's Frank Butler Park, on A1A at Butler Beach between St. Augustine Beach and Crescent Beach, with the river half, Frank Butler Park West, directly across the road. That pairing is its strength: fish the Atlantic troughs here for whiting, pompano and bluefish, with redfish and black drum in winter, then cross A1A to try the Matanzas River on another stage of the tide. Shrimp and sand fleas on bottom rigs take most fish, and the flooding tide is best. A long boardwalk with steps leads over the dunes from a county lot with restrooms, outdoor showers, grills and two pavilions; the park is open dawn to dusk. Cars drive this beach one way southbound, so keep gear clear of the lane, watch for rip currents, and note that the county bans shark fishing from the beach.
