Vilano Point Fishing

7.5· Inlet · St. Augustine, FL

Also called Porpoise Point

Free: Free on foot; driving onto the beach needs a seasonal pass (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Vilano Point, known locally as Porpoise Point, is the sandy north side of the St. Augustine Inlet at the south tip of Vilano Beach, where the north jetty runs out from the beach. It is one of the best inlet shore spots in northeast Florida: redfish, black drum, flounder and sheepshead feed along the jetty rocks and the inlet edge, while bluefish, jacks and Spanish mackerel chase bait through the mouth in season. Fish the moving tide, with bottom rigs on the rocks and lures along the current seam. St. Johns County's Porpoise Point vehicle ramp reopened in April 2026 after a rebuild; a four-wheel-drive vehicle is required on the soft sand, and the beach from the Vilano Beach ramp is not connected for driving. The current is strong, the jetty rocks are low and slippery, and inlet boat traffic is constant.
