Avalon State Park Fishing

Fee to fish: State park entrance fee per vehicle, paid at an honor box (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Avalon State Park protects 1.7 miles of undeveloped Atlantic beach on North Hutchinson Island, a few miles north of Fort Pierce Inlet, and the park calls it one of the hottest places around to fish from land. Pompano, whiting and bluefish work the troughs from late fall into spring, black drum turn up in the cooler months, and the fall mullet migration pushes snook, jacks and redfish close to the sand. You reach the water on a coquina-shell path over the dune from a small lot beside A1A. The park opens at 8 a.m. and closes at sunset, charges $2 per vehicle at an honor box, and has a restroom, a beach shower and four picnic pavilions with grills. No lifeguards are on duty, and concrete and steel obstacles from World War II Navy training still lie in the water, so wade carefully.
