D.J. Wilcox Riverside Fishing

6.5· Pier · St. Lucie Village, FL

Free: No entry fee (checked Sep 27, 2026)

D.J. Wilcox Riverside is a lagoon-front area at the east end of Wilcox Road, north of St. Lucie County's D.J. Wilcox Preserve near Fort Pierce, run by the county's Mosquito Control District, with a multipurpose trail, a canoe and kayak launch and a 125-foot fishing pier over the lagoon. The pier reaches out over the shallow Indian River Lagoon, classic water for spotted seatrout and redfish, with snook along the mangrove edges, black drum and sheepshead in the cooler months and jacks and ladyfish chasing bait. The lagoon's tides are small this far from the inlet, so wind, water clarity and light matter as much as the tide. It is a quiet, natural spot with no restrooms or bait listed, so bring everything. Expect mosquitoes and muddy paths after rain, and leave at the first thunder.
