Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park Fishing

Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park is a 37-acre Volusia County park north of Ormond Beach that runs from the Halifax River to the Atlantic, so one visit covers a river dock and the surf. The park's nature trail runs west to its fishing dock on the Halifax River, a T-shaped county dock across John Anderson Drive where redfish, spotted seatrout, black drum and sheepshead are the regulars, with flounder in the fall and snapper and jacks in summer. Across the street on the east side, the beach gives whiting, pompano and bluefish in the surf. The river has only a small tide, so wind and light matter most there, while the surf follows the Atlantic's two tides a day. The park is open sunrise to sunset with restrooms, a pavilion, a canoe and kayak launch and a dog park; the east beach lot charges a daily fee. Rip currents on the beach and lightning are the hazards.
