San Jose Fishing Dock is a Volusia County dock at 2591 John Anderson Drive, on the western edge of the barrier island where the Halifax River runs along the Intracoastal Waterway. It is a plain fishing dock with limited parking, open sunrise to sunset, and it is the northern neighbor of the closed Briggs Drive dock. The fishing is inshore and light: sheepshead and black drum on the pilings in cool months, redfish and spotted seatrout along the edges and grass in the warm months, and mangrove snapper and jacks in summer. Fiddler crabs and live shrimp are the staple baits. Park carefully, since spaces are few, and watch for boat wakes and afternoon lightning.
